Jul 19, 2023 #South Korea

South Korea has achieved a significant milestone in its automobile export sector, as the country’s car exports reached a record high of $35.7 billion in the first half of this year. This remarkable growth can be attributed to the soaring demand for eco-friendly vehicles produced by South Korea, particularly in the United States and Europe.

According to data released by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy on Monday, South Korea witnessed a substantial year-on-year increase of 46.6% in automobile exports, surpassing the previous record of $25.2 billion set in the first half of 2014.

When combined with auto parts exports, the total outbound shipments from South Korea’s auto industry during the January-June period amounted to $47.3 billion.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy projects that the strong performance of the Korean auto industry will continue throughout the year, with total exports, including vehicles and auto parts, expected to reach $80 billion by the end of 2023.

This data showcases the significant contribution of South Korea’s automobile industry to the country’s export sector, driven by the growing popularity of eco-friendly vehicles. The impressive surge in car exports reflects the successful efforts made by Korean automakers to meet the increasing global demand for electric vehicles. With the United States and Europe as key markets, South Korea is well-positioned to further capitalize on the growing interest in eco-friendly transportation and reinforce its position as a major player in the global automotive industry.
