Over the past eight years, a Tulsa-based nonprofit has successfully saved companies a staggering $10 million by implementing energy-saving measures, optimizing water usage, and promoting recycling, all while fostering sustainability practices that benefit both the environment and the bottom line.

Formerly known as Sustainable Tulsa, the Sustainability Alliance has been actively collaborating with 94 organizations across 16 cities and seven states since 2015. During this time, they introduced an online tool designed to assist companies in measuring their sustainability efforts and achieving their goals.

Corey Wren Williams, the executive director of the nonprofit, noted, “I believe we’ve moved beyond merely using sustainability as a buzzword. It has become an integral part of how businesses operate. Stakeholders and the incoming workforce now expect it.”

Sustainability has gained prominence not only in the United States and Europe but also in far-reaching places like Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and the Amazon region.

The motto of the Sustainability Alliance is “the triple bottom line,” emphasizing the importance of people, profit, and the planet.

In 2015, the organization launched Scor3card, an innovative online tool designed to aid organizations of all sizes in monitoring and enhancing their sustainability metrics. The unique spelling, with a “3” replacing the “e,” symbolizes three key economic measurement metrics: people, profit, and the planet.

Scor3card comprises 55 directives categorized into seven key areas, each offering valuable tips and links to help businesses benchmark their sustainability initiatives:

  1. Communication and Promotion
  2. Community Resilience
  3. Healthy Work Environment
  4. Material Management
  5. Transportation
  6. Energy
  7. Water

The Sustainability Alliance collaborates closely with individual companies, nonprofits, and various organizations to tailor specific metrics and goals that best suit their unique needs and circumstances.
