Amazon Web Services (AWS) is set to invest $10 billion in Richmond County, North Carolina, to develop a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing campus. This significant investment aims to bolster AWS’s infrastructure and create at least 500 high-skilled jobs, including roles for data center engineers and network specialists.
The new campus will be located in the Energy Way Industrial Park, benefiting from existing energy infrastructure provided by Duke Energy and Pee Dee Electric. This strategic location ensures reliable power supply essential for AI and cloud computing operations.
Beyond job creation, Amazon plans to collaborate with local educational institutions to offer training programs in data center operations and fiber optics. These initiatives aim to equip the local workforce with skills necessary for the evolving tech landscape.

Governor Josh Stein praised the investment, stating that it positions North Carolina at the forefront of technological innovation and provides a substantial economic boost to Richmond County.
This development is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to invest heavily in AI infrastructure, with plans to spend over $100 billion on data centers over the next decade.
The Richmond County project represents a significant step in Amazon’s efforts to enhance its AI and cloud computing capabilities, ensuring the company remains competitive in the rapidly evolving tech industry.
