After 43 years, Toyota ends Camry sales in Japan

By the end of the year, Toyota will stop selling the Camry sedan in Japan, ending a 43-year run. It’s obvious from the math: in 2022, Toyota only sold about 6000 Camrys in its native nation.

In the U.S. and other international markets, where Toyota sold a total 600,000 cars last year, the Camry will continue to be offered. Since the 1980 model year debut of the Camry, Toyota has sold roughly 1.3 million units in Japan.

The sedan has been sold in more than 100 nations and territories worldwide in excess of 21 million units. For 15 years running up until 2016, it was the most popular passenger car in the US.
